When we first launched this blog, we intended it to be a place where we could connect with you directly. The comments section was supposed to be a place for conversation between Deguiyu citizens and Deguiyu employees. In some instances, it was successful. In the majority of cases, it failed.

Deguiyu’s blog has been subjected to an unusual amount of comment spam — nothing of which contributed value to the discussions. With our world outside already a mess, we don’t want out valuable citizens experiencing a new mess in the comments section of our blog. Therefore, we have decided to close comments indefinitely. This morning, Deguiyu employees went through and removed all comments from the previous entries. We’re starting fresh as of today.

Of course, with the tremendous amount of comments we received, it isn’t unexpected to find a few we missed here or there during our cleanup process. If you happen to find a comment that was not removed, please report it through a Service request.

Thank you for your cooperation, and we apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you.

Reaching you through the Community Games service

December 14, 2008

Other corporations put a wall between themselves and their consumers. Here at Deguiyu, we value transparency and connectedness. This blog is just one example of the many ways in which Deguiyu is reaching out to you. A second example is through our upcoming Xbox 360 application. Continuing with our regular stream of updates, today we’re announcing our support of Xbox Live’s Community Games service.

The Community Games service democratizes Xbox 360 development by offering tools to anyone interested in creating their own product. Upon creating a product, it must go through both a playtesting session and a series of peer reviews. If the product contains any debilitating malfunctions, it will fail the peer review process, and the creator will have to go back and make the requested changes. If the product is free from errors, however, it will pass peer review and will be posted on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Deguiyu loves giving power to the people. For this reason, we will be releasing our newest addition to our Lifestyle Software brand through the Community Games service. We’re gearing up to submit it to playtesting, so if you’re a Creator’s Club member, get ready to experience Deguiyu’s latest solution.

Thank you for your fantastic feedback!

Deguiyu makes a difference

November 26, 2008 (2 Comments)

Thank you to all of Deguiyu’s global citizens who support and encourage Deguiyu Special Unit Team (DSUT) and their efforts. A Toronto-based Deguiyu citizen mentioned that she opened her window slightly to feel the progress on the air quality and confirmed that the air certainly felt better.

As much as Deguiyu is glad that this Deguiyu citizen confirmed the improvement in air quality, we want to warn you that it is extremely hazardous to expose yourself to outside, unfiltered air. Please lead a well-preserved lifestyle inside your home until Deguiyu cleans up the polluted mess outdoors. We value your health and well being.

Keep staying tuned to Deguiyu’s blog for the latest reports on how DSUT is accomplishing their mission.

Are small teams better?

November 18, 2008

Deguiyu’s Vancouver office is researching team dynamics and productivity by experimenting with its own internal team structures. 3 of Deguiyu’s best employees were selected and put in a team. Their project is to come up with a “never-done-before” way of getting rid of e-waste pollution in Vancouver. Vancouver, as the global hub for digital media, has been creating enormous amounts of e-waste for decades. Currently, the roles of the team are distributed as a technical director, a creative director, and a head designer. The result of Deguiyu Vancouver’s research will be judged by Deguiyu Vancouverites and Deguiyu citizens from around the globe once the team delivers the final solution.

A clean slate

Admittedly, Deguiyu’s online presence in previous years has been minimal. In fact, a quick search for the term “Deguiyu” yielded no results whatsoever.

It’s because of this that we’ve become so aggresive in building out our website and virtual reach. We want you to be able to access our services wherever and whenever you need them. We hope you find our efforts useful.

Welcome!

November 13, 2008

It is extremely exciting to post the Deguiyu’s first blog entry. This blog will offer Deguiyu’s precious citizens another option to directly connect with Deguiyu and our anti-e-waste efforts. Deguiyu will continue to update this blog with exciting updates relevant to you and your fellow global Deguiyu citizens. Feel free to leave your comments!

To celebrate the launch of the Deguiyu’s blog, let’s learn about the origins of our company names: Deguiyu and Techalamalka.

“Techalamalka,” the parent company of Deguiyu, takes its name from the combination of “technology” and “Kalamalka Lake.” Kalamalka Lake, located in interior British Columbia, Canada, is commonly interpreted as meaning “the lake of many colours.” Techalamalka represents “technologies of many colours.”

“Deguiyu” comes from the combination of “de-“ and “Guiyu.” Guiyu is a small city in southern China. It’s notorious for being the biggest e-waste dump site on Earth. Feeling responsible for the current environmental crisis and being committed to eliminating the chaos on the planet, we reshaped our corporate identity in 2003 and changed our name from Techalamalka to Deguiyu.
